This project involved temporary propping to enable the demolition of several primary loadbearing steel and concrete columns as part of extensive structural alterations. Bespoke temporary propping systems had to be designed which could eliminate irrecoverable deflections arising from elastic shortening while maintaining established load paths onto existing piled foundations and facilitating installation of and load transfer to future permanent works. Temporary works designs utilised pneumatic rams loaded to pre-calculated loadings to ensure load transfer to temporary framing in conjunction with monitoring telemetry to track structural deflections in real time.
